Soil water capacity

A figure of the predicted soil water holding capacity of the A-horizon (top soil) derived from soil mapping within the Murrumbidgee River basin is shown below. It is a measure to determine the amount of water which is stored in the soil and available for plants to use. The given capacities are based on the difference in volumetric water content between permanent wilting point and field capacity, converted into a depth, by using the depth of the A-horizon as a reference. Soil water capacity data have been sourced by the Bureau of Rural Sciences, Australia.
